'Destiny' DLC & sequel incoming (finally)

Beyond that [Spring update], the team is focused on delivering a large expansion later this year, and a full Destiny sequel in 2017," David Dague noted in Bungie's weekly update, which outlines the game's new holiday game mode and some other tweaks to the game.

While this "large expansion" and the sequel (!!!) are certainly big news, this upcoming update may hold more than we suspect. In the past, big updates have hinted at upcoming content. For example, the Queen's Wrath PVP event foreshadowed the then-impending House of Wolves DLC, which is now referenced as a turning point in Destiny's rocky history with story content.

EITHER WAY, THE CONFIRMATION OF THE SEQUEL IS CERTAINLY GOOD NEWS

While neither Bungie nor Activision have offered up any specific details about the DLC or the sequel, "DeeJ" did reveal that there will be new PVE content in the Spring update (along with new tweaks for replayability - Year 1 strikes, anyone?). While it's extremely likely that some Year 1 strikes will be upgraded and dispensed into the Year 2 strike playlists, it's also possible that this update holds something more. Namely, the new PVE content could be an event like Queen's Wrath - a brand new vendor might show up with some bounties, which may prepare players for the 2016 DLC.

After all, Petra Venj arrived in the Tower as an emissary for the Queen of the Awoken, and her reputation prepared players for the House of Wolves DLC. What if a representative of Osiris were to show up and offer bounties focused around killing Vex? That sort of thing. Either way, whether or not the content is substantative, the confirmation of the DLC and the sequel is certainly good news for a starving Destiny community. We can sit back now.
